Vessel Response Plans: Past, Present, and Future
Required vessel response plans for improved ship owner oil spill response readiness were implemented by the International Maritime Organization (IMO) in response to oil spill number and size increases in the 1960s and 1970s. Issues examined by the authors include IMO plans; tank vessel response plans; nontank vessel response plans; and future plans. Oil spills are analyzed. Inserts describe vessel response plan-related rulemaking project titles and vessel response plan electronic migration.
