Citizenship Requirements on Commercial Fishing Vessels

Citizenship requirements for commercial fishing vessel masters and unlicensed seamen are addressed in Title 46, United States Code, Chapter 81, Section 8103. There can be misunderstanding of citizenship requirements in the fishing industry, with noncompliance resulting. Citizenship laws are enforced on commercial fishing vessels by the United States Coast Guard. Citizenship-related legal requirements for commercial fishing vessels, along with exceptions, waivers, waiver request procedures, DOL certification and H-2B visa filing procedures, citizenship requirement waiver request qualifying criteria, and filing processes, are examined by the author. An insert describes documents establishing proof of identification for non-U.S. citizens.
