Managing Construction Budgets: The Affects of Material and Fuel Prices on Initial Cost
The article examines road construction budget management. Road construction and reconstruction are affected by oil prices in a variety of ways, including material manufacturing and equipment use. There seems to be a slowing in the increase of the price of concrete. Asphalt prices, however, will rise in relation to oil prices, which are currently predicted to continue to increase. This discrepancy is related to a number of reasons, including the increased availability of cement. The myth that it is faster to use asphalt than concrete for reconstruction is also being debunked thanks to new concrete pavement techniques. Since concrete prices are unlikely to shift dramatically, planning for the future is easier.
