AIRPORT FINANCIAL MANAGEMENT: ACCOUNTING FOR AIRPORT OPERATIONS

Five major categories of financial reporting are reviewed; and the need is noted for a fully integrated financial management system. Two routes to such a system are possible: design and installation of a system specifically developed to the individual airport's requirements; the acquisition of one of several government-oriented financial information systems which may require varying amounts of modification to satisfy all of the individual reporting requirements. Comments are made on the selection of the appropriate package of software. The coding block itself is the foundation of any financial system and must provide in its design for all reporting requirements. A coding structure is presented which satisfies all reporting requirements discussed in the article. Coding of the document, and optional subsystems are also discussed.
