WAVE-INDUCED OSCILLATIONS IN HARBOURS OF VARIABLE DEPTH
An integral formulation of the Helmholtz equation is numerically tested on the problem of the wave-induced oscillations in harbors of variable depth. If the method has some disadvantages with respect to the finite element methods, it is rather simple to apply and in some cases it might be preferred. An accurate analysis of all its features and possibilities has not been carried out. A simple application has been considered. The results obtained for this problem show that the volume of the harbor basin, when the bottom is varied, is of primary importance. As the volume decreases, resonance wave-numbers decrease and peak amplitudes increase.
