THE FAA'S SERVICE DIFFICULTY PROGRAM
The Service Difficulty Program is designed to promote flight safety by providing an open exchange of mechanical and maintenance irregularity information. Mechanics, inspectors, pilots and operators contribute their individual aircraft malfunction or defect experiences, which are incorporated into a bank of useful history of a particular airplane, engine or propeller. The 3 types of reports (the malfunction defect report; service difficulty report; maintenance difficulty report) that convey service difficulty information from the field to the office are described. The Service Difficulty Program is a function of the Safety Data Branch of the FAA. The input and output functions of this Branch are outlined.
