TESTS ON SIMPLY-SUPPORTED CONCRETE BEAMS WITH PRESTRESSED REINFORCEMENT
In some structural systems in use for buildings, bridges, and roads, composite construction of reinforced concrete and precast, prestressed concrete sections has been found to be economical. As prestressed concrete is less prone to cracking than ordinary reinforced concrete, a combination of the two seems to offer advantages, especially where cracking is to be controlled. Results of tests on sixteen simply-supported concrete beams reinforced with precast, prestressed concrete elements, and on three comparable reinforced concrete beams are presented in the paper and the observed behaviour is discussed at some length.(a) /TRRL/
