Sprayed Concrete Success
This article examines the improvements made in the field of sprayed concrete in tunnel lining applications. Non-toxic accelerators and reduced dust have improved operator safety, and modifications of mixes and lining designs have achieved better fire resistance and waterproofing. The author describes a range of safe concrete additives from a variety of suppliers. The soaring cost of steel and rebar due to building needs in China has caused certain problems. Other forms of reinforcement, such as lattice girders, which can help keep costs down, are described.
