Intelligent speed adaptation: Western Australia's demonstration project
Advisory Intelligent Speed Adaptation (ISA) systems have been field-tested in a number of countries, with good road safety benefits being shown. There is now considerable interest within Australia for the implementation of ISA on a widespread scale, to complement other speed management strategies. In order to stimulate community interest and demand for advisory ISA, the Western Australian Road Safety Council has commenced a major project to demonstrate the utility of advisory ISA in a number of vehicles in Western Australia (WA). This paper outlines some of the technical, liability and communication aspects of ISA that have been considered as part of the WA trial.
