DEVELOPMENT TENDENCIES IN POWERED VEHICLE TECHNOLOGY/SAFETY TECHNOLOGY. A REPORT ON PARTS OF THE PROCEEDINGS OF THE BMFT/VDI SEMINAR IN BERLIN, 10TH-12TH NOVEMBER 1976
ENTWICKLUNGSLINIEN IN DER DRAFTFAHRZEUGTECHNIK -SICHERHEITSTECHNOLOGIEN. EIN TEIL-BERICHT VON DER BNFT/DI-TAGUNG, BERLIN, 10. BIS 12. NOVEMBER 1976
In the framework of a BMFT study on technologies for traffic712A mean a decrease in safety. /T evaluation of road accidents as decision aids for the introduction of safety measures; the behaviour of the human being in traffic as the basis for new technologies; the important vehicle technological influences for the avoidance of accidents and decrease in the seriousness of accidents; and the possibilities of influencing the traffic procedure on roads. In a set of talks on accident research, reconstruction of accidents and constructive protective measures, the problem of accidents involving pedestrians and bicyclists with cars was dealt with. Other talks were concerned with the degree of danger associated with the external parts of vehicles in accidents involving pedestrians and the requirements of the design of the vehicle prior to the construction of passenger cars in order to mitigate pedestrian accidents. Concluding results from all this were drawn in a contribution on a safety car for pedestrians and passengers. Further reports were given on the results of methods of calculating biomechanical threshold values. One talk dealt with the safety requirements of the external parts of heavy goods vehicles. Then the evaluation criteria for the claims of goods vehicle drivers and for the steering behaviour of bicycle and motorcycle drivers were discussed. Finally the question was raised, whether a quiet tyre-road surface-combination would mean a decrease in safety. /TRRL/
