CRUDE OIL WASHING (COW)--A PROGRESS REPORT
An Exxon task group visited tankers to watch COW in progress. They reconfirmed that COW significantly reduces the oil remaining in cargo tanks after discharge. They also noted that careful manpower organization and planning are essential for a proper crude oil wash. A summary of the group's report is given along with Exxon's interpretation of some of the recently agreed tanker safety and pollution prevention IMCO decisions and suggestions for COW training.
