The Challenges Facing Human Resources Management in Latin America
The Latin American public transportation sector has experienced a period of reorganization, moving from an industrial model where the target is the attainment of operational goals, to a service model where the public transit user is a client that needs to be satisfied. This article describes the challenges presented to the human resources department by this new service model. There currently exists a gap between the available technological solutions, real working conditions of staff and the demand for a new client relationship model. To close this gap, human resources management must be included in the planning and discussion stage of new projects. This would allow human resource managers to use and share their background knowledge of the impact that the current situation has had on staff health and performance, and how future projects might change these impacts.
