Enjoy the Ride: To Enhance the Onboard Experience, Transit Agencies are Adding an Array of Amenities
This article describes the creature comforts that transit and commuter rail companies are adding in order to pull potential riders out of their cars and onto the rails. Amenities include new seating arrangements, flashier interior design, larger windows, new generation vacuum toilets, ergonomic seats, bike racks, and technology, such as Wi-Fi. Trinity Railway Express recently added WiFi technology on 21 of its vehicles, as have many other companies. The author describes the different types of WiFi networks that various commuter rail lines or coach lines are installing. Caltrain in California has added bike racks on cars, after concluding that bike riders account for about seven percent of the weekday ridership.
