Cars, Their Problems, and the Future
Though the automobile offers easy mobility to its drivers, use of the automobile has created many problems for society. Some of these problems include air pollution, traffic congestion, dependence on foreign oil, highways that dwarf their surrounding areas, and traffic accidents and their costs. In order for society to be its own master, and not slave to the automobile, it needs to start investing in and promoting alternative modes of transportation and land use. A transportation policy that does not offer large subsidies and for automobile commuting would be helpful. An increase in funding for public transit would also be of great use.
