2007 Summer Transportation Institute
The Western Transportation Institute hosted a two-week residential Summer Transportation Institute (STI) for high school students on the Montana State University campus from June 17 to June 29, 2007. Fifteen high school students from cities across Montana and one student from Chicago, Illinois participated in the program. The students ranged in age from rising tenth to rising twelfth graders. They participated in a comprehensive academic program that introduced them to various modes of transportation and highlighted transportation safety issues. Team design/build activities encouraged leadership and problem-solving skills. Students learned about college and career opportunities in the transportation field. The STI enhancement and sports and recreation program promoted career and college survival skills and encouraged sportsmanship and collegiality among the STI cohort.
