Nagano, Other Cities, Use Intelligent Transportation Systems for Traffic Management
Intelligent transportation systems help drivers and transit riders all over the world. This chapter describes intelligent transportation systems that were in use during the 1998 Olympics in Nagano, Japan. Systems mentioned include advanced traffic management systems, traveler information systems, vehicle navigation systems, global positioning systems, advanced vehicle control systems, and electronic toll collection. In addition, a bus transit system is mentioned that operates in Turin, Italy. The buses use a location system that helps buses adhere to their schedules.
