2008 Passenger Rail Outlook: Bye-Bye, Bush League Transportation?

This article suggests that a new administration in the White House could mean more money will flow into coffers for passenger rail, both intercity and transit. During the Bush Administration, the federal share of rail funding fell about 30 percent, and even Amtrak was shortchanged. The administration’s budget recommendations undercut congressionally mandated transit spending, as well. The article also discusses how reduced federal participation has affected communities’ efforts to build new rail transit. With a change in leadership in Washington, business could look up for suppliers to the rail transit industry. The article also includes the 2008 Passenger Car Market at a Glance, which includes charts and graphs detailing the passenger car market, a five-year outlook, as well as orders likely to develop in 2008.
