Successful delivery of small / medium size toll collection systems
A toll collection system (tcs) is considered of small / medium size when it is composed by a single toll plaza or by a reduced number of toll lanes distributed over a few toll plazas. In such tcs it is difficult to benefit from an economy of scale, since the cost of the design and development of the scheme is usually high compared to the cost of the toll collection equipment, which is proportional to the size of the system. this paper shows how the value of money in the delivery of a small / medium size tcs can be significantly improved by applying proper project management practices and how the systems integrator plays a crucial role in the success of the project. The arguments are illustrated by two case studies achieved by tecsidel.
