Pandrol VIPA-SP Track Fastening System for the Selby Canal Bridge, England

Network Rail undertook a large-scale operation in June 2007. The old bridge over England's Selby Canal was found to be suffering from old age and corrosion, so a new steel railway bridge was lifted into place. The track was mounted on gauge problem-causing longitudinal timber beams and there were problems with the brick abutments. The article looks at new bridge construction, where the need for longitudinal timber beams was obviated by fixing Pandrol VIPA-SP track fastenings directly to the steel bridge structure. The fastenings also allowed the bridge to benefit from reduced noise and vibration emissions, high electrical resistance, ease of installation, significant vertical and lateral adjustability, and enhanced ride quality.
