Information Service Architecture for International Multimodal Logistic Corridor

In this paper researchers discuss the implementation of an information service architecture for applications in an international multimodal logistics corridor named Pol-Corridor in the European Union (EU). The manner in which the information services needed for Pol-Corridor were derived is discussed as well as how extant off-the-shelf and already-operation systems are to be mapped onto Pol-Corridor's system. The theory and technical aspects behind information architecture in this situation are discussed, as well as certain policies of the EU that apply to interoperability of technical systems used in international transport. A case example along the Czech-Austrian border where a Czech Railways (CR) line must cross is given. It was found that applying a proper logistical framework as specified in the paper yielded a reduction of 30 minutes in border wait times, a reduction in operational personnel, an increase in the rate of on-time trains, and a reduction in time for inspections along the border.
