DERIVATION OF A MODEL FOR URBAN BUS TRAFFIC
FRAMTAGANDE AV TRAFIKERINGSMODELL FOER BUSSTRAFIK I TAETORT
The aim of this project was to create an interactive model for the simulation of traffic conditions on an urban bus line during peak traffic and to study the effects of various measures on operations and level of service. The interactivity means that taking and evaluation of measures are made in dialog with the computer and that the user continuously obtains information on the condition on the bus line through certain measures of quality and through a dynamic reproduction of the route and bus movements on a vdu. In order to make such an interaction possible the computer program works with a large set of commands. The theoretical model emphasizes the description of the time development in the operation of the bus line. The sub-models considering passenger flows and bus movements forming parts of the model are based on development of former works as well as new attempts and methods. The route and number of passengers are considered to be known and consequently the model is most feasible to describe and study minor changes in the operation of a bus line. The model was applied to statistical material in order to describe an inner city bus line in Stockholm during afternoon peak traffic. Since the variance structure of the bus line is described in detail it is possible to represent several interacting bus lines. The statistical methods derived are also applicable to larger time intervals than used in the application described. /TRRL/
