Report on analysis of Slovenia train field tests regarding motion sickness. Part 2: Analysis of motions and motion sickness

An aim of the FACT project was to identify the conditions in which passengers experience nausea, and to develop procedures for use with tilting train technology which help to maximise train performance whilst avoiding the onset of nausea. To meet this aim, the project had the objectives of performing field trials of motion sickness on tilting-trains and laboratory studies of motion sickness on a motion simulator. This report describes the evaluation of the vibration and motion sickness measurements obtained on board a tilting Pendolino train (supplied by Alstom Ferroviaria) travelling on a line running between Ljubljana and Celje in Slovenia during April 2005. This report forms the second part of FACT project deliverable report D6b. The first part of the deliverable report (prepared by Alstom Ferroviaria) provides a technical description of the test train, test line, journey conditions, subjects and measurement procedures.
