The Oakville Transit Community Bus Demonstration Project
The Oakville Transit Community Bus service is patterned after the service route concept, which was established in Boras, Sweden in 1983. It commenced operation in Oakville on July 20, 1991. During its first five months of operation, passenger ridership has gradually increased from an average per day of 20.1 for the 10 days of operation in July to 40.5 per day during November 1991. This November average, however, represents only 36 percent of the expected ridership target of 112 per day. This shortfall in ridership has led to a proposed reduction in the frequency of service in the initial service area, to the introduction of a much broader service area within the town.
