Boom or Bubble?: Aircraft are in Short Supply, Backlogs are Rising and the Industry is Awash in Capital
This article looks at the financial strength of the aircraft industry, noting that worldwide statistics reveal that both passenger and airfreight traffic statistics continue to grow. According to the International Air Transport Association (IATA) predictions, traffic is expected to grow 5.1 percent annually through 2011. According to aircraft financiers and asset managers, reasons for the surge include the heavy demand for air travel, a shortage of modern aircraft, and the availability of funds to build aircraft. The article also notes that the aircraft industry is becoming a more global industry, with new markets emerging in Eastern Europe, Russia, and Asia.
