Systems Analysis for Traffic Safety Problems
The solution of the problem of increasing traffic safety requires a systems approach, and the organization of scientific research into all the questions regarding the complex system "driver-vehicle-road-environment", including socio-economic factors. The systems approach is characterized by its integrated view, the acknowledgement of linkages and relations between the individual components, and the concept of the multi-level structural hierarchy within the system wherein adjustments are possible. The paper deals with the direction of research and policies towards higher traffic safety. It is noted that the problems should be solved with the help of the theory of reliability to assess the reliability of each element of the complex system mentioned above.
