Need and Scope of Transport Research in Developing Countries – A Case Study of India
There is hardly any research in developing countries that is related to the transport sector. In order to find out the solutions to the problems of the development and growth of the economy and its inter-linked relation with total overall development, this research is drastically needed. Even the basic data regarding future demands of transport are lacking. Similarly, the relationship between rising gross national product and the index of mobility is also not available. The acceleration and multiplier effect of transportation is compared to other sectors of the economy so that pragmatic decisions could be taken for the resource allocation is non-existent. The paper describes how there is a need for extending concept of social cost benefit analysis to the transportation sector.
