Forecasting the State of the Canadian Freight Transportation System to the Year 2000
This study was initiated by the Strategic Planning Group of transport Canada to gain an understanding of the future roles of truck and rail modes in the Canadian freight transportation system. The objective of this study were to: (1) identify the current state of truck and rail modes in the transport of intercity freight in Canada; (2) identify the interrelations between truck and rail modes; (3)outline the important economic, behavioral and technological factors that impact the future development of tuck and rail modes; (4) forecast to the year 2000 the more important factors that affect the development of the modes; and (5) prepare scenarios outlining the state of truck and rail modes in the period 1980-2000.
