Obtaining Public Input to Transport Planning
The various output of goods and service which society chooses to actively plan, investment in the transport sector demand is afforded the need for long term planning. The transport infrastructure that society benefits from, especially roads and railways can be traced back to investment decision made long ago. To estimate the future flow of benefits, data on travel behavior are collected and projected and efforts are made to ascertain public attitudes towards features to transport service, with a view to improving the understanding of traveler’s decisions. The views, opinions and knowledge of the public can be of assistance in the process of transport planning. If the public’s views are carefully elicited, these views can improve the process of transport planning. No amount of transport planning is worthwhile unless the plan can be executed. Researching public response can materially increase the chances of producing a plan that can successfully be implemented.
