Improvements to the Public Passenger Transportation Sector by Means of the Extensive Deployment of EDP Supported Procedures
A current EDP research and development project, sponsored by the West German Ministry of Research and Technology is called the BISON project, which stands for operational control and information systems for the public transport sector. This paper describes how the main objective of the BISON project is to improve economic efficiency. Economic efficiency, first, with regard to reducing the development and procurement costs for the BISON software products, and second, with regard to maximizing cost savings by deployment of the BISON components. The benefits gained by using the BISON components must be greater than the expenditure that is required for their procurement.
