MODERNISING TOLL COLLECTION IN A LIVE HIGHWAY ENVIRONMENT ON ONE OF SCOTLAND'S MOST STRATEGIC ROAD TRANSPORT ROUTES AMID CHANGING TECHNICAL STANDARDS

Starting in 2003, the Forth Estuary Transport Authority (FETA) and Hyder developed a strategy for replacing the toll equipment, integrated with transport planning, highways and structural engineering disciplines. Considering these issues holistically offered advantages in procuring the works through a single contractor, using a partnering form of contract. FETA, Hyder and Egis Projects (and their sub-contractors) successfully combined all engineering disciplines to produce one of the most modern, flexible, forward-looking and innovative tolling solutions in Europe. This project meets the standards applicable to the European Electronic Tolling System (EETS),given effect through the Department for Transport's OMISS suite and the devolved transport policies of the Scottish Executive.
