Transport Direct: taking journey planning into uncharted territory
In 2005 the government launched a multi-modal journey planning website called Transport Direct. The website contains 35 million start and end points for journeys. Although impossible to keep the information completely correct, its results have improved. The website is very popular. Features of the site include; identifying areas of congestion, calculating fuel consumption and calculating carbon dioxide emissions for journeys. In the futurethe website's details on public transport tickets and their purchase willbe improved.
