Transport in urban design - Newcastle reconciles needs of buses and pedestrians
The author comments on the Commission for Architecture and the Built Environment's (CABE) good practice guidance on street design, entitled 'This way to better streets: lessons from ten successful streets'. The guidance includes a series of case studies including two sites in Newcastle-on-Tyne,UK. The author discusses the findings relating to the reconciliation of buses and pedestrians in the Grainger Town and Quayside parts of the town and in Devizes Market Square, which are seen as successful urban street environments in the CABE publication.
