Transport Survey Standards and Futures

This chapter has two principal purposes. The first is to provide an overview and summary of the conference that was held in Costa Rica in 2004. The second is to offer a summary and conclusions of the chapters of this book, and to attempt to provide a few pointers as to where the profession should be heading in the next few years. As noted in the Preface to this book, the chapters of this book were originally among the papers presented at, or written as a consequence of the 7th International Conference on Travel Survey Methods. They have been revised since that conference, and a number were written subsequently to the conference to provide a summary of the discussions that took place in the conference. Therefore, the chapter begins by describing the conference and what took place there.
