Vehicular Crash Tests of a Nested Thrie Beam Transition Barrier
This report presents the results of a study which developed a bridge rail transition design that would meet NCHRP Report 350 test level 4 (TL-4) criteria. Three transition designs were tested during the project. The first design pocketed, while the second design showed excessive deflection. The third design was shown to successfully withstand the impact of 2000-kg and 8000-kg vehicles, thus satisfying the requirements for structural adequacy, occupant risk and vehicle trajectory of NCHRP 350.
