Driving in Old Age: Use of Technology to Promote Independence
This editorial discusses the role of car driving and mobility in the lives of older adults. The authors consider how this arena provides a critical test for the potential and limits of gerontechnology. The authors argue that the interaction of a triad of variables must be considered in order to fully understand the potential and limits of gerontechnology. This triad features person-related functioning, the microenvironment of car technology, and the broader context outside the car.
