Widex noise report - traffic noise in England 2007
The problem of traffic noise in UK towns and cities is outlined. The effects of noise on hearing-impaired people are considered and the rising number of people suffering from deafness is discussed. This report describes the noise levels in 41 towns and cities in England measured during October and November 2006. Measurements were undertaken in the morning and evening rush hours using a Ruel and Jkaer 2260 investigator system. The Tyne Bridge in Newcastle-upon-Tyne was the noisiest spot, exceeding the first action level of the noise at work regulations with levels exceeding 80dB LAeq. Birmingham and London were the second and third noisiest places. Torquay was the quietest place with a level of 60 dB.
