Safe Routes to School: Bringing Together Transportation and Public Health
Safe Routes to School programs are more likely to succeed when transportation and public health professionals work together. This article discusses the role of public health professionals in this collaborative effort. While transportation professionals have the skills and abilities to provide safe infrastructure for travel to school, public health specialists can take the lead on public awareness, education and motivational efforts that emphasize the health benefits of walking or bicycling to school.
