The Crucial Interface

The author describes wheel-rail interface, fundamental to rail transportation and to be discussed at the International Wheelset Congress (IWC) to be held in Prague, Czech Republic from September 23 to 27. The IWC will be hosted by Bonatrans Group in association with International Railway Journal, Union of European Railway Industries, and European Railway Wheels Association. Topics relating to wheel-rail interface to be discussed include: wheel tread surface damage during operation (both rolling contact fatigue and flats) and high impact wheels. An insert describes IWC highlights and offers interested parties the address of the IWC website (www.15wheelsetcongress.com).
