Road Safety Assessment : State Route 70, U.S. Route 50, State Route 16: Executive Summary

This is the executive summary to a report which describes a project designed to test Road Safety Assessment (RSA) or Road Safety Audit procedures on California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) facilities. The primary objective is to address the operation of intersections and roadways in an effort to sure a high level of safety for all road users. Additional project objectives include: 1) assess the crash potential and safety performance of the roadway or intersection, and prepare a report identifying potential safety issues; 2) identify deficiencies before they are built into the project; and, 3) provide results to the responsible agency for evaluation. selection, and justification of appropriate changes. Included in this report are RSAs for three Caltrans safety projects in different phases of completion: 1) SR-70 near Oroville (in planning phase); 2) US Route 50 east of Placerville (in post construction phase); and, 3) SR-16 west of I-505 (in design phase).
