Houston Contractor Nabs Hefty Performance Bonus

This article relates how a large incentive program and an unusual lane rental agreement encouraged contractors to complete the Interstate 10-610 interchange in Houston in record time and receive a hefty bonus. Incentive programs are not common in Texas. Neither is the rare lane rental method that allowed the contractor to close a lane during peak weekday hours and pay a dollar amount per lane per hour or choose to close a lane from 9pm to 5am for any number of days at no cost. Given the success with the Interstate 10-610 project, Texas Department of Transportation (DOT) expects to use similar approaches on future major projects.
