First on the scene
The approach to deploying incident detection and intelligent transport systems (ITS) in Croatia is outlined in an interview with Ivan Bosnjak of the University of Zagreb. The ITS Croatia Association is working on the development of national ITS architecture. The traffic control and incident detection system installed in the Brinje Tunnel, a motorway tunnel on the Zagreb to Split highway, is described. Traffic signs with an internal lighting system, LED signs and variable message signs were used as a means of fast communication with the driver. Measurement and traffic control devices were also installed. The trend towards integration and compatibility detection of systems is highlighted. An advanced method of traffic analysis and incident detection based on video recordings is being developed at the University of Zagreb.
