Shared space - Room for everyone - a new vision for public spaces
Shared Space is a European cooperation project that aims to develop a new policy for designing public spaces at regional, national and eventually at a European level. Seven pilot projects carried out in Germany, Denmark, Netherlands, United Kingdom and Belgium are described in this publication. The chapters include: public space - what is it?; the public realm or the highway; what does shared space require?; public space - everyone's business; shared space and policy; the shared space process; and the practical lessons learned from Shared Space. It is considered important the road user can tell from the space what behaviour is appropriate and required.
