Idiosyncrasies of LNG Marine Terminals
LNG marine terminals generally contain a jetty, a material offload facility and berthing provisions for tugs. This paper reviews some of the key characteristics of these facilities and in particular concentrates on areas where they differ from other bulk loading terminals. The topics addressed include a) material offload facility (MOF) requirements, b) LNG vessel criteria, c) the specific mooring requirements for LNG vessels and the impact of these requirements on the facility design, d) combined LNG /LPG and condensate terminals, and e) LNG piping requirements. In addition, comment is provided on the general features of LNG terminals and on the more common structural solutions.
