STRATIFIED CHARGE COMBUSTION PROJECT. FINAL REPORT

The project was designed to study the stratified charge engine process by investigating the air:fuel mixing processes in a motored engine. Holographic techniques were to be used, since developments in pulsed laser technology indicated the possibility of holographic, three-dimensional, imaging of extremely fast transient events such as the liquid fuel injection. The study includes inlet port development, engine air-motion study, and injection process and gas modelling. Further application of the gas modelling technique is considered, and the need for further evaluation of the use of tracers in the liquid fuel is stated. /TRRL/
