STREET PATCHING OPERATIONS, FIELD TEST EVALUATION PROGRAM, SYLVAX UPM, IMPROVED STREET PATCH MATERIAL
This document presents results of a field test in which standard cold mix and Sylvax UPM were compared in terms of their effectiveness as street patching materials. Based on the analysis of the field test results, the Sylvax UPM pothole patching material does appear to have improved patching qualities when compared to standard cold mix patches. The test data indicates that for Sylvax UPM very few failures occur after the first four months of installation. In contrast, the standard cold mix patches can continue to fail at a nearly constant rate beyond the initial installation. The Sylvax UPM material performed significantly better than the standard cold mix when subject to high volume traffic loads. There was also a significant improvement in performance of the Sylvax UPM when compared to the standard cold mix when the materials were placed in medium to large sized potholes and when the potholes were in poor condition. Only the effectiveness aspects of the Sylvax UPM material are examined in this report.
