Wiltshire County Council and Salisbury District Council, UK, have developed four park-and-ride sites around Salisbury, with a fifth planned. Park-and-ride is a key component of the Salisbury transportation plan, which aims to reduce congestion in the city centre. The first park-and-ride site was opened in 2001 at Beehive, with subsequent sites opened at London Road, Wilton and Britford. All sites have the WPS BC200 pay-on-foot and barrier system. All four sites are backed by a WPS maintenance package that includes equipment and ongoing technical support. WPS provided full training to park-and-ride staff. The BC200 software allows parking tickets to be customised for different park-and-ride sites and enables businesses and individuals to buy a session card. Use of the park-and-ride sites is monitored by the software. The technical support team can access the system and run diagnostics remotely. The four sites are now accredited with a Park Mark quality award.
