The OeBB/Porr ballastless track system
Several types of ballastless track systems were evaluated by OeBB, the Austrian Federal Railway Company, in 1982-1995. The main types used were monolithic systems (RHEDA), booted sleeper systems (STEDEF) and precast slab systems (OeBB/Porr). The OeBB/Porr was shown to perform best and has been used on the OeBB network since 1995. The worldwide use of ballastless track systems is outlined and the use of the OeBB/Porr system outside Austria is described. The main features and advantages of the OeBB/Porr system are discussed. The advantages include the very small space needed, the good vibration attenuating performance, and ease of construction and maintenance. The possibility of use of the system by the Turkish railway network is considered.
