Inclined to agree

A new landmark bridge, the US$42 million Main Street Bridge, will be built to replace the existing bridge in Columbus, Ohio, USA. The bridge was designed by DLZ Ohio, with HNTB as the lead structural design firm. The bridge will be an inclined single-rib tied arch bridge. The bridge was to be compatible with the neighbouring Broad Street Bridge and was to incorporate high-performance materials to achieve a 100-year life span. The structure has three vehicle lanes, a pedestrian walkway on the south side of the bridge and a 6m-wide pedestrian deck. It has a steel box girder roadway and a concrete pedestrian path. Aesthetics and attention to detail were considered critical to the design. Progress with the construction of the bridge is outlined.
