United Into Teams: Florida Turnpike Organizes Entire Inventory With Asset Management System
This article describes an asset management system, TEAMS (the Turnpike Enterprise Asset Management System), used by the Florida Turnpike Enterprise (FTE). It is a GIS-driven database with a web-type graphical user interface that stores and retrieves detailed information on all FTE inventory assets such as buildings, tollbooths, pavement centerlines, bridges and the like. It was developed by a team consisting of the agency and an outside consultant. All Turnpike personnel can reach the database through their desktop computers on the Turnpike's intranet. Modules for specific, commonly used functions are in place. Pavement condition rating systems, proactive maintenance and paving systems and other techniques are described. Under construction is a database linking utilities to the asset database. Wi-fi is expected to be implemented ultimately.
