Review of Community Mobility: Driving and Transportation Alternatives for Older Persons
This article reviews the book, Community Mobility: Driving and Transportation Alternatives for Older Persons, edited by William Mann and published in 2006. This book uses seven research studies to support the case for the role of transportation in maintaining physical health and mental health in older adults. The studies included range from the impact of psychological, health, and psychosocial status on driving among disabled elders to research on the impact of the physical environment and home range issues on elder driving. One area of special note is the attention paid to driving cessation as a predictor of future psychological and physical declines. The reviewer comments that one strength of the book is the international perspectives included.
